Steps

1. Fill the plate up to the rim with water. Ants can't cross water, so they'll be immediately deterred.

2. Place the honey jar in the center of the water on the plate. Be gentle to avoid spilling water over the edges. You can stop here or proceed to using the next step for added protection.

3. Use a piece of chalk to draw a circle around the jar. This is an added deterrent because chalk is a natural ant barrier.

4. Add a lid for the honey. When not in use, this will ensure the honey is protected thoroughly when the lid is on, even if it has attractive honey drips on the side of the jar.
